When I was a teenager my mother took in a cat named "Pericles" from a friend of hers who had to move to an apartment and couldn't keep him. Found out from her friend his unique name was Greek. He was named after a prominent and influential statesman and general. It was pronouced "Pear-i-kleez". My friend and neighbor girl was funny and could NEVER pronounce his name correctly and called him "Purr-celery". Made me laugh to tell the story to my husband and when we took on two kittens several months later from my uncle (male and female) we named them Montague (the male) and Pericles (the female) because he absolutely loved the story of my friend next door that could never pronouce our cat's name! We actually called her Purr-Celery.
